::: Nightlife in Warsaw

Warsaw has always had something of a rough and ready reputation when it comes to its nightlife. However, the scene is constantly improving. New-style bars and club nights seem to be opening every other week. Warsaw's nightlife tends to be spread out around the city, with plenty of nice venues opening up on the outskirts of the city. Nevertheless, the Old Town is always a safe bet for some good pubs.

There are no licensing hours and many bars and clubs stay open until the last guest leaves. The minimum age for purchasing alcohol is 18 years. A beer costs around Z4-6, while spirits can be anything from Z20 upwards. Admission to clubs tends to cost between Z10-40. A recent trend has seen door staff insisting that all coats and bags be left in club cloakrooms - for a fee of course.

The best source of information on cafés, pubs and clubs is Warsaw in Your Pocket (website: www.inyourpocket.com), an excellent magazine that is updated on a monthly basis by a savvy and irreverent writing team.

However, we can recommend you our best.

Cafes:
  1. Zielnik Cafe, bar bistro
    Cuisine: international
    Address: 15 Odynca Street
  2. Antykwariat Cafe
    Address: 45 Zurawia Street
  3. Same Fusy
    Address: 10 Nowomiejska Street
It`s like visiting another cosmos. With the sounds of Led Zeppelin, and a menu of 100+ bizarre teas to choose from (the unexplained Winnie the Pooh, toffee etc), this candle-lit cellar is a great place to perch yourself and daydream. On the downside, the space cowboy serving us took around 30 minutes to infuse our ultimately naff raspberry tea. Worth popping by for the zen-like atmosphere. "(8-12z3)
  4. Mala czarna
    Address: 54 Hoza Street
It`s got two claims to fame: 1) the best coffee in Warsaw. But drink in moderation.
  5. Slodki slony
    Address: 45 Mokotowska street
"Drawn by the prospect of tea, gossip and the best cakes in Warsaw this has become a solid favourite with the chattering classes. The restaurant upstairs now also boasts an English menu, and some tasty snack-sized options like sandwiches, veal and pierogi.

  3. TGI Friday's
    Address: 29 Aleja Jana Pawla
It`s fun, it`s reliable, it`s like the one back home. Or so you might think. We were told to hurry up and go as the staff fancied an early night. (15-50z3)
